About the seminar

This seminar will share the expanding opportunities in the Kansai region as well as the investment environment of HYOGO-Kobe. They will share thought-provoking experiences to inspire your insights into your route to success in Japan face-to-face at the HKSTP.

Why HYOGO-Kobe

Located in the heart of Japan, HYOGO-Kobe has developed into the centre of the Kansai region with Osaka and Kyoto, which is the next key liaison after Tokyo between Japan and the world. As an example of a major future project, Osaka and the Kansai region will host the 2025 World Expo with the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”. This will function as a venue of co-creation dedicated to contributing to the achievement of the U.N.’s SDGs. Moreover, redevelopment of the Sannomiya area surrounded by beautiful sea and mountains, which is the heart of HYOGO-Kobe, is now progressing toward envisioning a new form for the future, in cooperation and collaboration with JR West group. Since the fiscal year 2001, annually approximately 20 foreign/foreign-affiliated companies have utilized the “6 Bests” to establish businesses in HYOGO-Kobe.

Mr. Ricky Fong, Director of Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Osaka

Mr. Ricky Fong came to Japan in 1996, entered the Kobe University of Commerce (now University of Hyogo) in 1997, completed the Master’s course at the university in 2003, and joined the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) in 2003. He had been in charge of various industries such as jewelry (pearls), construction & building materials, design and medical & environmental protection, and has been in his current position since April 2021.

Mr. Ocean Ng, Co-Founder & COO of Mapxus

Mr. Ocean Ng is the Co-founder and COO of Mapxus, a leading indoor map technology company. He is an experienced IoT Solution Consultant and Entrepreneur, especially in the field of indoor GIS, Positioning Technology, RFID Technology and Application, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Mobile Commerce, Automation Control, etc.

Mr. HARUNA Ryuji, Senior Director of JR West Innovations

Mr. Harna Ryuji joined JR West in 1995. Until now, he has worked in the railway vehicle maintenance division, quality assurance, and investment-related medium-to long-term plans. Appointed current position in June 2021

Mr. WAKABAYASHI Toshiaki, Deputy Director General of JETRO Hong Kong

Mr. WAKABAYASHI Toshiaki joined JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) in 2000. He worked in the Cairo office, Overseas Research Department and Invest Japan Department etc. He has been serving as the Deputy Director General of the JETRO Hong Kong since May 2022.

Mr. FUKUOKA Atsuhito, Deputy Director-General of HYOGO-Kobe Investment Support Center

HYOGO-Kobe Investment Support Center provides various support services for companies planning to set up, develop and expand their businesses in HYOGO-Kobe. Mr. FUKUOKA Atsuhito directed its support services in Tokyo office and in Kobe head office consecutively. He also has many experiences in international programmes at Hyogo Prefectural Government, Foreign Ministry, University of Hyogo, Carnegie Mellon CyLab Japan and APN (an inter-governmental climate change research organization).

Mr. YAMAUCHI Takao,
VP Business Consulting, Global Digital MOJO KK (Osaka)

Mr. YAMAUCHI Takao was born and grew up in Hyogo pref. He majored in Economics at Hyogo University, Japan. After he joined OMRON Corporation, he worked overseas for more than 15 years in the UK, Hong Kong, and South Korea. Especially, He started a new business and established a new regional headquarters in Hong Kong and South Korea. He managed several subsidiary companies in Japan and overseas as a managing director. He has a lot of networks in Japan and overseas. And when he became the managing director of OMRON Hong Kong ltd., he researched the startups in Hong Kong and Shenzhen and introduced them to Cooperate venture capital in Japan. Since 2022 AUG, he has been in charge of business consulting and new business development at Global Digital MOJO KK in Osaka and has been supporting Hong Kong and Taiwan startups to expand their business to Japan.

Mr. YAMATANI Kimio,
Director of Hyogo Business & Tourism Centre (HK)

Mr. YAMATANI Kimio has been serving as the Director of the Hyogo Business & Tourism Centre (HK) since April 2022, a role assigned by the Hyogo Prefectural Government. He was the group leader of the economic exchange group at the international economic development division of the Hyogo Prefectural Government and was formerly the senior deputy director of the Japan Council of Local Authorities for International Relations, Singapore representative office.
