Hyogo Expansion Q&A

Q2: Is the infrastructure for research and development in place?

A2: There are over 300 diverse research institutes. Analysis and evaluation using SPring-8 is also possible.

Our prefecture is home to a concentration of internationally-acclaimed industry-academia-government research institutes, many of which are concentrated in the coastal areas of Kobe, Hanshin, and Harima. By industry, private research institutes are concentrated in the core manufacturing sectors of machinery, metals, electrical machinery, food, pharmaceuticals, and chemistry.

Harima Science Garden City is home to cutting-edge scientific facilities such as SPring-8, a large-scale synchrotron radiation facility with world-class performance, and SACLA, an X-ray free electron laser facility. The facilities are open to researchers from Japan and abroad and have produced excellent research results in fields such as material science, biological science, environmental science, and industrial applications.
To further promote industrial use, Hyogo Prefecture has installed two dedicated beamlines to meet the diverse analytical and evaluation needs of industries such as drug discovery, semiconductors, polymer materials, batteries, and everyday items. In addition, the Hyogo Prefecture Synchrotron Radiation Research Center was established as a support organization for SPring-8 users, and provides analytical rooms equipped with various equipment and shared research laboratories that can be rented.
